2025 Municipal Election

The next Municipal Election will be held on October 20, 2025

Elections will be held for the nine (9) Councillor positions, one from each of the nine (9) electoral divisions. The Chief Elected Official (otherwise known as the Reeve) is elected from amongst its members at the annual Organizational Meeting.

Elections will be conducted in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act and other applicable municipal bylaws and policies.

  • The nomination period runs from January 1, 2025 to September 22, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. 
  • Candidate information packages, including all necessary forms for submitting nomination papers, will be available at www.countygp.ab.ca/elections or at the County Administration Building during office hours.

Candidates can file nomination papers during the nomination period by booking an appointment with the Returning Officer to do so during office hours.

*Note: Nomination Papers must be filed before 12:00 p.m. on Nomination Day.

Advanced Voting Dates

Wednesday October 15, 2025
4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

and

Saturday October 18, 2025
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

Application deadline for requesting Special Ballots 

 

October 17, 2025 at 4:30 p.m.

 

Completed Special Ballots must be received by the Returning Officer

 

October 20, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. 

 

Nomination Day 

 

September 22, 2025

·         Nomination papers must be filed by 12:00 p.m.

 

October 20, 2025 – Municipal Election Day

 

Voters will be required to register to vote in Municipal Elections as per proposed changes to the Local Authorities Election Act (Bill 20 – Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024).  The voters list will be provided to the County under a Data Sharing Agreement with Elections Alberta.

Voters are encouraged to register to vote by visiting Voterlink in advance of the election. 

The deadline to register to vote in advance is August 15, 2025. 

You will need an Alberta Driver's License or an Alberta Identification Card for each individual you wish to register or update. 

Missed the August 15, 2025 registration deadline? Voters can still register at the voting station and must bring acceptable ID.

The following information is collected during the registration process: 

  • Name – First and Last
  • Address – Residential Address and Mailing address (if applicable)
  • Birthdate 
  • Signed Statement – Form 13 Elector Register  

The personal information collected by the County is used to support the administrative requirements of the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) and is authorized under section 13(1) of the LAEA and section 4(c) of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).  

The County is committed to protecting personal information it collects and uses. The information in the electors register may only be used to verify voter eligibility, and no candidate, official agent or scrutineer shall access or use the electors register, including, without limitation, by taking a photograph or making a copy of the electors register.

The Register of Candidates is a list of candidates that have filed their Notice of Intent to run in the 2025 municipal election. 

New this year, candidates must file a Notice of Intent to Run as a candidate.

Candidates who plan to run in the 2025 municipal election can only accept campaign contributions and incur campaign expenses once their notice of intent to run is complete and they are added to the Register of Candidates.

Your Notice of Intent must be filed in person with the Returning Officer by arranging a delivery time in advance.
